BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May first of each calendar year as a day to be observed to honor the working men and women in Louisiana, who get up every day and work hard to provide for and lift-up their families, their communities, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the executive branch of the state of Louisiana, to the extent practical, to cause an appropriate celebration on May first of each calendar year to bring recognition and appreciation to the dignity of all working men and women in Louisiana.
Workers Day
May 1 remains a major celebrated holiday in Europe. International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day in some countries[1] and often referred to as May Day,[2][3] is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and occurs every year on May Day (1 May). In 1955, Pope Pius XII established the "Feast of St. Joseph the Worker" on May first of each calendar year. The date has historical connotations to counteract the "May Day" celebration for workers sponsored by the communists.
Elevating and Celebrating the Workers
Acknowledgment of efforts of military, educators, first responders, health care providers, energy workers, barbers/beauticians, fisherman, farmers, auto mechanics, restaurant workers, finance, banking insurance industry workers, administrative staff, with a special tribute by former Lieutenant Governor Scott A. Angelle to the most important vocation of all, motherhood.
Inspired by Joseph the Worker as a model for all working men and women, the Louisiana resolution points to virtues such as patience, peacefulness, prudence, protector, provider, and prayerfulness – the resolution uses historical points involving and sacred scripture to ultimately call for the elevation and celebration of all Louisiana working men and women each year on May 1, now referred to as St. Joseph the Worker Day in the State of Louisiana.
This resolution was a collaboration between Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, Jennifer Picard Angelle (owner of Hugs from Heaven), Fr. Michael Champagne (Superior of Community of Jesus Crucified), Former Lt. Governor Scott A. Angelle, and Louisiana Senator Fred Mills, Jr.

“Ite ad Joseph” - St. Joseph protected the Holy Family from Herod’s wrath and who knows how many other dangers and threats to them over the years. Remember that one of St. Joseph’s titles is “Terror of Demons.”
